The Journey (Wednesday Nights at 5:45)
The Journey is a walk through the bible this year. It is led by Pastor Don Elliott and includes a worship time.
Music Ministry
First Presbyterian is blessed with a Sanctuary Choir that consists of about 20 members and always welcomes more voices. The choir loft offers space to include many more. Jan Pike leads the choir as the Interim Choir Director. This group is more than a choir – it is a small group who enjoy music, singing praises to God, and praying for the needs of others. Because they have a love for music and God, they make quite a contribution to the worship service. Choir practice is Wednesday nights at 7:15.
Another important part of the music ministry of First Presbyterian Church is the Jo Anderson Bell Choir. Led by Paige Frame, this choir adds a different and beautiful level of music to the service when they play. They participate in Sunday morning worship at various Sundays throughout the year and in the Maundy Thursday Service. Practice time is every Wednesday from 5:30-6:00 p.m. and they also welcome new members.
Senior Adult Ministry
The Senior Adult Ministry is a vibrant part of FPC with many opportunities for fellowship, service, Bible study, and interesting outings. FPC also seeks to serve this segment of our congregation through providing assistance with transportation, visits, and homecare needs. A monthly newsletter is also published to provide information on upcoming events.
Friendship Class
The Friendship Class at First Presbyterian began in 1991, as a result of Jimmy Orr's family locating in Corinth. Jimmy had attended a class in St. Louis at a Presbyterian Church. We began to learn about a program called Friendship Ministries which publishes curriculum for the mentally impaired. Jimmy still attends and plays the piano, hands out daylight savings time notices among other leadership roles. Carol Ann Gaines is another important member who stays in touch with other members by phone.
Many of you have participated through the years in the Friendship Class by providing programs, serving refreshments, and volunteering as mentors. The class meets on Thursday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 for 10 weeks beginning Labor Day and resumes again around Valentine's Day for the spring. The time together is filled with fellowship, a prayer time, and sharing each other's joys, sorrows, and fears. The class provides them an opportunity to get support from each other. If you haven't visited the class you should. It is an inspiring experience worshiping with the class and a worthy ministry.
The class needs volunteers to make it run. If you haven't participated before and would like more information, please call the church office at 286-6638. If you can serve refreshments on night, please call Janis Spear at 286-2069. If you are involved in another ministry and would like to share that with us, please call Mary Kemp at 287-3221. The class enjoys programs of songs, games, crafts, movies, exercise, or really just about anything from building to planting. Also, if you know anyone who would benefit from the class, we always need more students.
Martha's Ministry is an opportunity to serve others by cooking and delivering meals to members of the congregation and community who are sick, have a new baby, or have lost a loved one.
Family Bible School is held in late summer each year and is a chance for the whole church to come together for worship, fellowship, and Christian education.
